KSV Instruments ltd

Short Company History

When established in 1981 KSV defined its business idea as becoming the best in the world in the chosen niche. This niche was Langmuir film technology. KSV Instruments started out as an precision mechanics & electronics department of another Finnish company, KSV Chemicals Corp., a company known for its extensive research of Langmuir films. Because not good enough Langmuir troughs were available at the market the scientists at KSV Chemicals decided to make the troughs themselves. KSV's homemade systems were superior in performance, a fact that soon was recognised by the international research community and the sales inquiries began to arrive leading to a serial production and the world wide marketing of the instruments.

Bought out by its management in 1988 the mechanics & electronics department became independent of KSV Chemicals Corp. and was named KSV Instruments ltd. During the last 10 years KSV has grown to a leading manufacturer of Langmuir instruments in the world.

In the beginning of 1990 KSV found an interest in developing instruments for R & D and routine applications in surface chemistry. During the 1980's KSV developed a deep understanding of monolayer technology and instrumentation i.e.  extremely sensitive and accurate electronic balances, highly accurate vertical positioning stages and smooth running precision mechanics. This know-how and especially the close co-operation with certain international universities has made it possible to developed a range of tensiometers, contact angle meters and powder wettability analysers.

During the years KSV has also made many custom designed products on the request from the customers. For example, as a spin-off from a custom made instrument KSV now produces a range of digital high speed cameras.

More than 300 KSV instruments has been installed all around the world and the number of scientific articles published by our customers are well over 500.
